Why Meta tells you how many people saw an ad
A European law, the Digital Services Act, makes big platforms open their ads to the public. Since August 2023, for every ad shown in the EU, the Meta Ad Library shows who paid for it, who it was aimed at and how many people in the EU it reached.
That last number is the reach. It counts people, not views: someone who saw the ad five times counts once. It covers people in the EU only, and the whole life of the ad so far.
SaaSpy reads it for every live SaaS ad through Meta’s official Ad Library API and shows it as Meta gives it. We do not estimate it and we do not round it up.
Why reach says more than how long an ad runs
Most ad spy tools judge an ad by its age: if it has run for months, it must work. That is a guess. A company can leave a small ad running for months with little money behind it.
Reach is a count. An ad seen by a million people in a few weeks has a real budget behind it, and companies keep paying only for ads that bring them customers at a price they like.
Read the two together. A new ad with a big reach is being pushed hard right now. An old ad with a big reach is a proven winner. In the SaaSpy app you can switch the list to every live ad, whenever it started.
How we build the list
- Real SaaS only. Companies that sell software, with a website of their own and at least 3 live ads.
- Live ads. The ad was running the last time we read the company’s ads, and that was in the last two weeks.
- New ads. It started in the last 30 days, so every ad on the list had the same time to be seen.
- Seen by 1,000 people or more in the EU.
- Two ads per company at most, each with different words, so one big advertiser cannot fill the list.
The list is counted again every six hours. An ad shown only outside the EU has no reach number, so it cannot be on it: this is a list of what Europe saw.
How to check any ad yourself
- Under an ad on this page, click “See it in the Meta Ad Library”. Or open the Meta Ad Library, pick a country in the EU and search the company.
- Open the ad’s details.
- Find the part about the European Union. It shows the reach, and splits it by country, age and gender.
Meta updates the number as the ad keeps running, so the one you see there can be higher than ours, which is from the day we last read it.
Questions
What are the most-seen SaaS ads right now?
In the last 30 days the SaaS ad seen by the most people in the EU was Qonto's, with 605,684 people, followed by Sumsub's (575,539) and HR WORKS' (489,632). The list is counted every six hours from Meta's Ad Library.
Where does the reach number come from?
From the Meta Ad Library. Under the EU's Digital Services Act, Meta has to publish how many people in the EU each ad reached. SaaSpy reads it through Meta's official Ad Library API and shows it as it is.
Does reach count the same person twice?
No. Reach counts people, not views: someone who saw the ad five times counts once. It covers people in the EU only, over the whole life of the ad so far.
Why do some ads show only their words?
We show the image or video once we have saved a copy of it. For some new ads we only have the words so far, so the card shows the words, and the link opens the full ad in the Meta Ad Library.
Is it free?
Yes, the top 6 is free with no sign-up. SaaSpy Pro shows the whole list, lets you pick the last 7, 30 or 90 days or every live ad, filter by industry, and adds each company's estimated ad spend and revenue.
